General Questions
Q1. What is BLI's Liquid Boron™ and what makes it so unique?
A1. BLI's Liquid Boron™ chemistry is a patents pending boron based lubricant exclusive to products from Boron Lubricants Inc. There are two specific properties that contribute to the uniqueness of BLI's Liquid Boron™ chemistry. First, it is the only boron based lubrication chemistry found in solution and second, BLI's Liquid Boron™ has a strong affinity to metals seeking to bond creating an almost permanent virtually diamond hard boric-oxide surface boundary lubricating layer. The boric-oxide surface layer continuously regenerates providing long life friction and wear reduction.
Q2. How does BLI's Liquid Boron™ differ from other products with boron based lubrication?
A2. BLI’s Liquid Boron™ is a solution and not a dispersion or mixture. By definition, as a solution it is a homogeneous mixture of substances dispersed molecularly existing in only one phase. In BLI’s case, the one phase is liquid. The boron cannot be filtered and will not settle out. In other boron based products, the boron additive, at either the micro or nano particle size is suspended in a mixture and will settle out or can be filtered. If you have to “shake well before use”, it’s NOT BLI’s Liquid Boron™.
Q3. What is boron based lubrication and how long has the technology been used?
A3. Boron chemistry as a lubricant was discovered by the Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). The initial discovery in 1991 was the 1st generation of boron-oxide (B203) film lubrication. BLI’s Liquid Boron™ is the 4th generation development of boron-oxide lubrication and it is the key ingredient in Boron Lubricants, Inc.’s line of quality products. For more information please read “Boron Lubrication Development”.
Q4. How does BLI's Liquid Boron™ reduce friction?
A4. BLI’s Liquid Boron™ has a coefficient of friction of 0.009 which reduces both mechanical friction caused by metal-to-metal contact and viscosity friction.
Q5. Is BLI's Liquid Boron™ in every product?
A5. BLI's Liquid Boron™ based additives are in every product.
BLI's Liquid Boron Engine Treatment
Q1. How does BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Treatment differ from other products with boron based additives?
A1. BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Treatment contains the exclusive patents pending BLI’s Liquid Boron™ chemistry. One treatment provides long lasting friction and wear reduction! BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Treatment does not need to be added at each oil change and should continue to provide the bonded boric-oxide friction reducing surface layer lubrication from 50,000 to 100,000 miles (8,000 hours).
Q2. How does BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Treatment help my engine?
A2. BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Treatment contains BLI’s Liquid Boron™ chemistry which actually bonds to engine components creating a bonded boric-oxide surface on components in the combustion zone and crankcase. BLI’s Liquid Boron™ has a coefficient of friction of 0.009 which reduces both mechanical friction caused by metal-to-metal contact and viscosity friction. The virtually diamond hard protective layer also reduces mechanical wear again caused by metal-to-metal contact, corrosive wear caused by acidic products and abrasive wear caused by hard foreign matter in the engine.
Q3. How often do I treat my engine?
A3. Unlike other engine treatments or engine oil additives, BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Treatment is regenerative. Once the boric-oxide boundary layer has bonded with engine components, the protective layer is self regenerative meaning that it continues to replenish itself oil change after oil change. One treatment will last from 50,000 to over 100,000 miles (8,000 hours) depending upon the type of application, i.e. highway, city, off-road, construction, etc.
Q4. Do I need to retreat my engine after I change oil in my vehicle?
A4. No, after the initial treatment no further treatment is needed. The unique properties of the formula regenerate even after the oil is changed.
Q5. How much BLI's Liquid Boron Engine Treatment is required for full treatment?
A5. The treatment ratio is 1:10, BLI's Liquid Boron Engine Treatment to engine oil capacity. If you have a 40 quart (10 gallon) engine oil capacity you will need 4 quarts of BLI's Liquid Boron Engine Treatment. If you have a standard 5 quart engine oil capacity or smaller you will need half a quart (one pint) of BLI's Liquid Boron Engine Treatment.
Q6. How quickly should I begin to see results?
A6. Results begin once BLI’s Liquid Boron™ bonds with the metal components creating the bonded boric-oxide boundary layer. The bonding typical occurs after 250-500 miles depending upon the engine application.
Q7. Will installing BLI's Liquid Boron Engine Treatment affect vehicle manufacturers limited factory warranties?
A7. No, BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Treatment is totally safe, and will not alter or affect Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) limited warranties.
Q8. Is the Liquid Boron Engine Treatment environmentally friendly?
A8. Yes, until the product is added to your engine and it becomes part of the contaminated oil in the crankcase. This product is 85% biodegradable by volume. Contaminated oil is considered a hazard and should be treated as such and recycled per local regulations.
BLI's Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment
Q1. When should BLI's Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment be used?
A1. BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment is designed to clean sludge, varnish and other deposits from engine components. We recommend pre-treating the engine if you have over 20,000 miles or 4,000 hours of service or if the engine has less and has been neglected or in severe or very dirty duty. BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Pre-treatment is not a chemical and will not harm engine components so it can be used at anytime.
Q2. Can BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment be used in other components besides gasoline and diesel engines?
A2. Yes, BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment can be used to clean sludge and varnish in most automotive and industrial gearboxes, differentials, gear reducers and manual transmissions. BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment is compatible with all engine oils and automotive and industrial gear oils.
Q3. Why do I need to pre-treat my engine or gearbox?
A3. Pre-treatment of an engine or gearbox with BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment removes sludge, varnish and other contaminants from component surfaces cleaning the surfaces and preparing the surface for BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Treatment. Cleaning component surfaces allows BLI’s Liquid Boron™ chemistry to more quickly begin bonding reducing the work required by the boron chemistry to work through varnish buildup to reach the metal surfaces. Quicker more efficient bonding equals quicker results.
Q4. Will BLI's Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment harm my engine or gearbox?
A4. No, BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment will not harm any components in your engine or gearbox. BLI’s Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment’s specially formulated chemistry will not harm metals, yellow metals, white metals, o-rings or seals. However, if there is severe varnish or sludge buildup in the component, the o-rings or seals may leak after the varnish or sludge is removed. O-rings and seals are lubricated by clean oil and the seal swelling additives in the oil.
Q5. Does BLI's Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment contain any solvents?
A5. No, BLI's Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment is an all petroleum based formula that has natural detergency characteristics.
Q6. Is BLI's Liquid Boron Engine Pre-Treatment environmentally friendly?
A6. Yes, until you clean your engine and it becomes part of the contaminated oil in the crankcase. Contaminated oil is considered a hazard and should be treated as such and recycled per local regulations.
